
In 2004, he voluntarily retired from Etibank to devote more time to his musical endeavors. His interest in Turkish music began at a very young age, and he received his initial training in music theory, notation, solfeggio, maqam, and rhythmic patterns from his first teacher, Ali Şenozan. In 1983, he met Cinuçen Tanrıkorur and began systematic oud training. He was the first student to complete his teacher’s award-winning Oud Method, which earned first place in Türkiye Radyo ve Televizyon Kurumu TRT’s Plucked Instruments Method Competition.
Yusuf Koçak has taught theoretical music classes and served as an oud instructor and choir conductor in various educational institutions and music associations. He currently conducts the Turkish Classical Music Choir of Eti Maden Enterprises and the Kastamonu Şehri Dilâra Turkish Music Choir.
Yusuf Koçak is currently serving as a lecturer in the Instrumental Training Department at the Turkish Music State Conservatory of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University.
