
ONNİK GARİPYAN (KÜÇÜKÜNER) (1900 – ?)
Onnik Garibyan, born in Thessaloniki, was an Armenian oud maker. He learned the craft of oud making from his older brother, Mıgırdıç, and also collaborated with Kirkor Kahya. Examination of the labels on some of his surviving ouds reveals the inscription "Hamza Usta and Onnik Garibyan," indicating that he also benefited from the expertise of Master Hamza. While his exact date of death is unknown, the most recent dated oud attributed to him is from 1976.
The ouds crafted by Onnik Garibyan are highly valued and often compared to those of Manol in terms of quality and craftsmanship. Onnik's ouds are characterized by their structural, physical, and material properties, as well as the unique traits of their maker. In addition to ouds, Onnik Garibyan also crafted kanuns and tamburs, securing his place as a renowned and significant figure in the history of instrument making.
