
Ender Göktepe, born in 1952 in Ankara, spent his early years of education in Istanbul. After completing high school, he returned to his hometown, Ankara. His father, Sabri Göktepe, a world-renowned oud maker, always supported him during his studies at Ulus School of Arts, guiding him throughout his journey. Growing up among talented musicians was a significant advantage for Ender Göktepe. His father’s guidance and support played a crucial role in shaping his career.
In his youth, Ender Göktepe developed an interest in rhythmic instruments, quickly mastering the field and gaining recognition in the world of Turkish traditional music. He later made a name for himself by working alongside prominent artists.
The Göktepe family entered the musical instrument manufacturing industry in the 1970s. By the 1980s, they had begun exporting their instruments and became a sought-after brand in the Middle East. They brought innovations to the sector by introducing a new mass production technique for oud making.
In 1980, Ender Göktepe achieved a breakthrough by modifying the soundboard of the oud to create an unconventional tone. He redesigned the body and fretboard of the instrument, producing a more powerful and captivating sound. Over his career spanning more than 40 years, Ender Göktepe has crafted over 15,000 ouds, becoming the choice of many renowned oud artists.
