Danyal MANTI (Academician, Writer, Composer)

He was born in 1956 in Eskişehir, Turkey. In 1980, he graduated from the Turkish Music State Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Twelve of his compositions have been awarded in various national Turkish music composition contests organized by different institutions. Additionally, 62 of his works have been accepted into the TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) Repertoire.

He conducts research on forgotten or nearly forgotten modes (makams) in Classical Turkish Music. Some of his works in this area have received awards in the "Composition Contest in Rarely Used Makams and Rhythms in Turkish Music" organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2005, as well as the "Composition Contest in Turkish Music Forms" organized by the same ministry in 2007.

As part of a scientific research project (Project No: 1003E375) at Anadolu University, he authored a book titled Rarely Used Makams in Classical Turkish Music. He also released an album titled Nadide İnciler (Rare Pearls), which consists of 14 compositions—all his own and performed by Nevasaz and Münip Utandı—based on rarely used makams. One of the pieces in this album received an award in the 2007 Composition Contest in Turkish Music Forms by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and all works in the album are included in the TRT repertoire.

Furthermore, as part of another scientific research project (Project No: 1309E322) at Anadolu University, he authored a second book titled Forgotten Makams in Turkish Music. He also released a follow-up album, Nadide İnciler II (Rare Pearls II), consisting of 11 compositions—again, all his own and performed by Nevasaz and Münip Utandı—based on forgotten makams. One of the pieces in this collection was awarded in the 2005 Composition Contest in Rarely Used Makams and Rhythms in Turkish Music organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. All of these works are also part of the TRT repertoire.

He is currently serving as a lecturer in the Department of Musicology at Anadolu University State Conservatory, specializing in Traditional Turkish Music. He is married to Nilgün Mantı and has a son named Toprak (born in 1997).
